The Gold of the Gods By: Erich von Daniken Narrated by: Tantor Audio Whispersync for Voice-ready. Publisher's Summary Erich von Daniken, whose books have enthralled millions of readers and listeners around the world, now presents astonishing new confirmation for his revolutionary theories. Most of my inspiration for my own writing comes from writers like Daniken who point out the obvious holes in our current understanding of history. I'm seen enough evidence to know that alien life exists but you won't find much of that evidence here.
Perhaps it is simply a matter of the book not holding up we An interesting yet flawed read. Perhaps it is simply a matter of the book not holding up well with age. More likely it was a case of a publisher pushing the author on to make ever-more audacious claims to help sell books. He is the forefather of an entire genre of books now Mar 25, Evadeen rated it really liked it.
Read some of the comments by "readers" - Hello!!! He wrote this in the seventies and even went to prison for 2 years under highly mysterious circumstances at the time. We've come a long way since and many people have become more open-minded to controversial ideas. Okay, many people are also more closed-minded these days.
I'm not fond of the translation errors and meagre answers to questions, but you can't argue away the ancient books he quotes and you can't call him conventional View all 4 comments. May 02, J. Wilson rated it did not like it. By the time of 'The Gold of the Gods', he'd already served time in jail for fraud he embezzled money from his employers to fund his research and was a best selling author derided for his ridiculous conspiracy theories.
You know, like Dan Brown. Unlike 'Chariots', the nonsense in which was obscured by a careful ghost-writer, the lies in this one are right there in the text. How can he fail to navigate his way to a library in China due to language barriers, but be capable of reading a book of early Chinese mythology in the same language? And how exactly did his ancient astronauts create life on Earth, a point he all too often skips over? It's strange to think this stuff ever attracted international attention; these days it would be left where it belonged, on a poorly-maintained Wordpress site or a rambling post on Reddit.
Aug 01, Felicia rated it it was amazing. One of my favorite books by Mr Daniken. I love his books because he is easy to read. It doesn't get bogged up with too much technical stuff. He writes so that everyone can understand what he is saying. If you want to feel convinced that Aliens were on Earth before us and created us, then read Mr. He's very thought provoking but he also backs up his claims with a lot of real evidence. Not only in artifacts but also even using the bible! He's a great writer. He is well worth the re One of my favorite books by Mr Daniken.
He is well worth the read. This book deals with prehistoric earthly era of the Gods. Nov 10, Scott rated it liked it.

This book was a neat book that excited a lot of people in the 70's, including me. His anthropologist uncle has taken him along on a visit to Don Rafael de Castillo, a descendent of a great explorer who claimed to have discovered a lost city of gold. But the secret of the city died with the explorer.
With Marco and Christina—the Don's children—Beck must set off into the wilds of Colombia to find the city and bring his uncle back. Along the way he must build a raft, negotiate wild river rapids, make camp, defend his friends from wild animals, and keep them all alive in the jungle. This fast-paced, exciting adventure is also full of real survival details and tips.

First I would like to thank the publishers for giving me a chance to read this book through the Goodreads First Reads giveaway. Gold of the Gods was a book that I was interested in because I had no idea of how good it would be. Bear Grylls is not known for being a writer but I was nicely surprised.
The book does not brilliant and its plotline is fairly formualic but it is an enjoyable romp and I found myself liking the characters well enough. Beck was a little too competent throughout so there was First I would like to thank the publishers for giving me a chance to read this book through the Goodreads First Reads giveaway. Beck was a little too competent throughout so there was never any real sense of danger.
Even at the end it was wrapped up too quickly and neatly. My main gripe would be that due to this the book and the characters were rather shallow. However it's an easy read, I read it during a train journey, and is well suited for children that are not generally big readers. I liked the addition of the knots at the end although I agree with an earlier reviewer that the book in general read a bit like one of Grylls' shows but with a kid in his shoes. Overall and enjoyable read but not a groundbreaking one. I recommend the book for younger, less competent or keen readers.enter site

An adventurous novel from Bear Grylls. It seems so authentic and feels like you are wherever the characters go. Definitely recommend reading this if you want to learn Spanish fast. Jul 19, Val Wheeler rated it it was amazing. Exciting adventure book, best way to describe is Indiana Jones but with kids, with a hint of the Enid Blyton adventure series, but much more modern and better written.
Really enjoyed it and always wondered what would happen next. Not just for kids, I think anyone can enjoy this book. I look forward to reading the next in the series,. Apr 10, Sarah rated it liked it. I have never been camping in my life so surviving in a jungle is well beyond my capabilities and being only fluent in English and coming across Spanish phrases in conversational text of this book already I am sure this book is going to fill my brain with new things. It is always hard to review a book intended for children as an adult viewpoint is somewhat different but I will do my best to be as thorough as I can without giving away spoilers to the storyline.
Still despite my squeamish stomach I am finding this to be an interesting and easy read and even with my limited reading time hoping to be finished before the end of the week at current reading rate. Unfortunately this made me mark down a little and doesn't make me want to rush out and get further books in this series even with a sneak preview of the next book at the end of his one. Think in this case I will leave this series of adventures for the younger readers around yrs, after that age I think they'd be after a bit more or need to be adventurers themselves to enjoy and appreciate the learning curve these story's have within them.

Apr 14, Edel rated it it was amazing. I really enjoyed this book!!!! First can I say the characters are awesome and brave and gutsy.. We get a good back history as to why Beck and his uncle are so close and it really sets us up for the story. We first meet Beck when he and his Uncle Al are in Columbia Beck is not long there when the story take a drastic turn and Beck and his buddies Christina and Marco find themselves using ever bit of survival knowledge that they have ever learned. From the opening pages to the very last one thi I really enjoyed this book!!!!
The Gold of the Gods
The book has plenty of survival tips as well as little snippets of history.. It is fascinating seeing how these friends use all their skills in the wilderness while telling you things not to do. This story will appeal to all who love adventure with a sense of danger I am really excited about this series! Aug 12, Jaguar rated it it was amazing. I think it was a great survival book, and something, I as a writer, have wanted to write. Now I understand how I should do it.
